Designed by Flavio Manzoni (Ferrari head of design) and introduced to an eagerly awaiting public in 2019, the SF90 was the first Hybrid Ferrari available as a series production vehicle. Following on from the La Ferrari Hypercar (the first ever hybrid from Ferrari) and using technology developed from the F1 team, the SF90 is the car that showcases what a pure performance company like Ferrari can do when they combine the best of everything they have learned both on and off the track.
The powertrain consists of the 574Kw 4 litre twin-turbo V8 engine (an evolution of the unit found in the 488 Pista and the F8 Tributo) mated to three electric motors producing 162 kW. This brings the grand total to 735 kW (or just under 1000hp) and a maximum torque of 800Nm.
The front wheels are powered by two electric motors which provides torque vectoring, and the third electric motor works in conjunction with the twin-turbo V8 to act as a torque fill. The entire powertrain puts its power down through a 8 speed DCT gearbox, and as with any Ferrari, has several different drive modes accessed by the eManettino on the steering wheel. The eDrive mode runs the car only on the electric motors, the Hybrid mode runs the car on both the internal combustion engine and the electric motors and is the car's default mode. The Performance mode keeps the engine running in order to charge the batteries and keeps the car responsive in order for optimum performance and lastly the Qualify mode uses the powertrain to its full potential.
As to be expected, The SF90 Stradale is capable of some truly astounding performance figures. 0-100 in 2.5 seconds, 0-200 in 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 340 km/h. At the time of testing in 2020, it was the fastest Ferrari road car to lap the Fiorano Circuit, beating the La Ferrari Hypercar by seven tenths of a second.
