Driving Purity
When it was launched in 2016, the BMW M4 GTS was the fastest BMW ever. Building on the already extremely capable and sublime M4 Coupe, BMW delved deep into their talent bin and created a car that was entirely focussed on providing driver enjoyment and exciting dynamics far above any other goal. There wasn’t a magazine globally that didn’t basically give the car a near perfect score with praise being heaped upon its simply incredible driving characteristics.
Available only in Frozen Dark Grey over Black Alcantara with a copper coloured roll-cage to match the wheels, the M4 GTS driving purity was matched only by its visual aggression. Replete with carbon wing, aggressive bespoke aero packaging and gorgeous silver faced copper coloured alloy wheels (19” fronts and 20” rears) and gold callipers on the carbon-ceramic brakes, there’s no mistaking the M4 GTS’ intent!
Using the venerated S55 3.0L twin-turbo six as its base, there was a substantial increase in power thanks to a race car style water injection system that meant BMW was able to extract an extra 37kW over the Competition, and 51kW more than a ‘standard’ M4, for a potent 368kW maximum. Torque was up too, to a massive 600Nm across 4000-5500rpm. One of the biggest complaints of the standard M4 (the subdued note) was addressed with a titanium exhaust system (also 7kg lighter).
Power was not the only focus though. For the track nerds and owners after that last percent of adjustment the engineers at BMW’s M division focussed their attentions on the chassis and weight reduction. The stock springs and dampers were replaced by three-way adjustable coil-overs, with 16 clicks for rebound, 14 clicks in high speed compression and six in low speed compression. On top of that there’s a 15mm window of adjustment for the ride height. Significant use of carbon fibre panels and carbon ceramic brakes meant that even equipped with the Clubsport package (which this car has) which includes a roll cage, fire extinguisher, carbon bucket seats and harnesses, the GTS was still 30Kg lighter than a standard M4 Coupe.
This stunning one owner car will suit the fussiest of collectors and has only accrued a total of just 1970 kilometres from new. Complete with a full BMW service history, this car also benefits from a full PPF wrap for peace of mind and presents as brand new. With only 25 ever delivered in Australia and many having been subjected to the rigours of regular track work, this gorgeous M4 GTS is a must for some seeking that special addition to their garage.
