An Extraordinary Bond Car For An Extraordinary Bond

With the release of the first new James Bond film with Daniel Craig as the eponymous spy, the directors knew they had to pull something pretty spectacular out of their hat. When the DBS first filled the screen in the carpark of the Casino Royale hotel, judging by the cinema-goers reaction, it’s safe to say that Aston and the production team had knocked it out of the park. Not since 1972 had the name “DBS” been used and the car produced JUST for the movie proved so popular that Aston Martin was genuinely swamped with demands from current and prospective buyers that it be built immediately.

What the final result was (in Jeremy Clarkson’s words) “a DB9, where EVERY little piece is a little bit better”. In fact the car posted a lap time 0.1 second off the Pagani Zonda and was faster than the Koenigsegg CCX.

Based on the already successful DB9, Aston did (literally as JC surmised) improve every little part of the car to make what will be fondly and widely regarded as one of the all time great Grand Tourers of not just that era, but any era. Sporting basically the same 5.9L naturally aspirated V12 as the DBR9 and DBRS9 race car, peak power was lifted from the DB9s 335Kw up to 380Kw via extensive reworking of the internal components. Equipped with a Graziano sourced six-speed manual transaxle, the DBS was capable of 0-100 in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 309Km/h. These figures fall desperately short of representing the effortless nature of the car as a whole, and the fabulously torque rich and responsive nature of the V12 in any gear at any revs.

To reduce weight, Aston Martin made extensive use of carbon fibre throughout the car. The bonnet, the boot, the front wings, the door opening surrounds and the boot compartment are all made of carbon fibre.  The car was also fitted carbon with carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon fibre splitter, and a carbon fibre rear diffuser to increase high-speed stability and heavy braking performance. Along with an aluminium roof and doors, the result was a 30 kg weight reduction as compared to the DB9.

This particular car is a three owner car that has just 27,100 kilometres on the odometer. Delivered new by Trivett Aston Martin on 30th of October 2008 it has an outstanding full Aston Martin Dealer service history and has just been serviced less than 400 kilometres ago on the 29th of September. Presented in flawless “Lightning Silver” over contrasting black hide (and also with PPF), an inspection is a must to really appreciate the spectacular metallic finish in the sunlight.

A truly collectible 2000’s era Aston, manual DBS Coupes are tightly held and rarely offered on the Australian market.
