The best sports saloon….ever
Commencing production in 2021 and listing a raft of improvements over the already astonishingly capable M5 Competition, the M5 CS fast became THE ultimate M-Car and global production sold out instantly. Every single one of the only 20 allocated to Australia was snapped up as soon as BMW confirmed availability in our market. Fortunately the car lived up to the hype with the CS being even that much better than the Competition on which it was further honed and revised. The BMW engineers somehow saved an additional 70kg from the Competition through extensive use of carbon fibre pretty much everywhere including the roof and bonnet (the latter made obvious from the exposed air vents sitting either side of the bonnet bulge).
More of the featherweight material has been used for the front splitter, door mirror caps, rear spoiler, and rear diffuser. In all a bit subtle in true sleeper fashion, at least compared with the GT3-look yellow headlights and the various accents that adorning the kidney grille frame, side gills, and badging. What really sets this car off are the superb-looking 20-inch forged Gold-Bronze wheels, which clearly expose the red-painted six-piston brake calipers as part of the standard-fit, carbon-ceramic brakes.
Moving this mass of carbon fibre and technical wizardry is the much lauded “S63” 4.4L twin-turbo V8. Fettled for an additional 7kw over the Competition, it now boasts a seriously impressive 467Kw and 750Nm of torque. Coupled to BMWs XDrive all wheel drive system and insanely good 8-speed auto, the numbers this car is capable of are stunning. BMW quoted 0-100 in 3.0 seconds, however nearly every single independent tester has achieved closer to 2.5 seconds. 0-200 comes up in 10.4 seconds and the top speed is *ahem* limited to 305Km/h. Astonishing numbers for a sports car, truly astonishing when you consider this car is a properly useable sedan with comfort for 4 large adults.
The current crop of motoring journalists agree, that given the option to just have one car, there are few that wouldn’t say that the M5CS is the best of the best. It’s a genuinely physics defying car with supercar shaming performance, plus all-weather capability and the practicality of a 4 door. In fact, Chris Harris rates it as one of the all-time greats and owned one personally, and he has also stated that selling his own CS was a huge mistake.
This gorgeous one owner car has a full BMW service history and has traveled 22,000kilometres. Presented in Brands Hatch Grey, the original owner opted against the factory “frozen” finish, instead preferring to get a full matte PPF wrap done instead (for the same appearance). Having the full Matte PPF provides peace of mind against scuffs and scratches and makes maintaining the appearance about as easy as it gets.
Cars such as these are tightly held, with identical cars with lower mileage commanding a huge price premium over the vehicle we offer here.
One of the most complete and spectacular performance saloons ever made (and arguably the greatest), the BMW M5CS is in a class of its own.
