Is this the best C63 Black Series in Australia? We certainly think so!
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series had a hard act to follow from the CLK63 Black Series, and it delivered. The fourth AMG model to wear the coveted Black Series badge, it did more than justice to that name. The exhaust note alone will be remembered as one of the sweetest sounds emitted from a road-legal car. This model celebrates the power of the hand-built 6.2-litre V8, which, for a time, was the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 on the planet.
With 380 kW at 6,800 rpm, the venerated M156 motor is a tribute to naturally aspirated V8s and their unmistakable bark and bellow. For the Black Series, the award-winning engine was treated to a 50-percent larger oil cooler, but where it really lifted its game was with a new ECU that managed the lightweight forged crank, forged conrods and forged pistons taken from the flagship SLS’s M159. Shifting this weapons grade power to the ground was the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission which benefitted from AMG’s own clutch packs for swifter shifts and more driver connection.
Taking the already bombastic C63 Coupe, significant changes were made to the shape to identify it from lesser models. That started with the Black’s menacing body, widened by 56mm up front and 84mm out back with pumped guards, fronted by a vented bonnet and unique bumper. Revised suspension geometry and recalibrated hydraulic steering gave the Black Series the front-end intimacy that the regular C63 lacked, connecting to 19-inch rubber and six-piston 390mm cross-drilled brakes.
Performance was predictably savage with a claimed 4.2sec 0-100km/h sprint as it took the standing 400m in 12.0sec flat and a governed 300km/h top speed.
This particular example, in Fire Opal Red over Black Interior, includes both the Aero Pack and Track Pack. The track pack traded the front leather electric memory chairs for lightweight shell buckets complete with provisions for racing harnesses, plus stickier Dunlops and a rear-axle trans cooler, red stitching and matching red seatbelts. The Aero pack includes front winglets and a larger front splitter. Out back, there’s a carbon-fibre rear wing that’s adjustable for more or less downforce, depending upon the racetrack and your driving ability.
With only 9,126 kilometres on the odometer, this particular car is a tribute to the seller. It has been kept in concourse condition and has the cleanest underside we’ve ever seen (refer to images). We believe this car is on the up and up with people only now just realising how special a car like this is
People want what they can’t have. Only 800 AMG C63 Black Series were produced globally, with just 42 allocated to Australia. As the only C-Class to ever don the Black Series label, it’s an automotive artwork with diminishing supply and international demand.
