1980 Porsche 911 73 RS Tribute (3.0 SC)

Starting with the solid foundation of a 1980 Porsche 3.0 SC – itself a highly collectible vehicle – ZAG Automotive put considerable care and attention re-engineering the 1980s coupe into a faithful tribute to the iconic 1973 RS.

Imported to Australia in 2009, the owner commenced planning the vehicle's conversion to right-hand-drive and its final 1973 RS form by highly-respected Porsche studio ZAG Automotive. Leveraging the 1980 911 SC base, which features a NinePlus rebuilt 3.0L flat-six and Porsche 915 transmission, ZAG got to work overhauling the vehicle’s exterior, and interior – completing the conversion to its current RHD, ‘73’ RS Tribute form in 2014.

The conversion retained the 1980 SC model’s larger displacement and more powerful 3.0L flat-six, alongside the larger brake package of the 80s coupe. ZAG also leaned on componentry from Koni, Elephant Racing, WEVO, Fuchs and Porsche’s genuine parts catalogue to improve and strengthen the fundamentals of the vehicle.

Enhancing the strong fundamentals and its true RS style, was a light-weighting campaign that saw the introduction of fibreglass body panels (front and rear bar, bonnet, ducktail) and the deletion of radio, heater blower, and rear seats from the vehicle. While the exterior and interior has been adorned with Porsche and period correct features. Combined, the RS conversion and re-engineering undertaken work result in a vehicle that has to be driven to be fully appreciated.

Covering a total 163,500km, with major servicing completed in 2019 and its most recent service completed in April of 2022, this high contrast white and black RS Tribute has been lovingly maintained and cared for over its life, and is ready to turn the clock back to the heady days of analogue sports cars for its next owner.
