how it works

BUYING A CAR

If you’ve seen a listing you're interested in, follow these simple steps:

1.

Register to Bid

In order to ask the seller a question you’ll need to be registered. If you’re looking to make a bid, you must update your payment methods with a verified credit or debit card.

2.

Perform due diligence

We do everything we can to give you industry leading transparency, however the responsibility to perform due diligence resides with you. So please make sure you’re happy before bidding. Remember, you can ask the seller anything you like and we can also arrange viewings.

3.

Money ready

Please ensure you have all the cash available or finance agreed for the total amount of your budget before bidding. The buyer’s fee is non-refundable and we’d hate for you to be disappointed.

4.

Logistics considered

It also makes sense to factor logistics into your total budget. We can pick-up and deliver the car for you, just get in touch for a quote.

5.

Bidding

When you’re ready to bid, make sure you’re logged-in and your verified payment method is the one you want to use. Then click place a bid and enter your bid value, equal to or greater than the next minimum bid value. Please remember that all bids are final and binding. We cannot retract bids and buyer’s fees are non-refundable.

6.

Winning

If you are the highest bidder on a no reserve auction or your final bid is the highest and equal to or higher than the reserve, then you will win the auction and the buyer’s fee will be automatically deducted from your verified debit or credit card. The buyer’s fee will be 6% inc GST, minimum of $1,000 and capped at a maximum of $10,000.

7.

Final transaction

We’ll manage the final transaction for you and the seller, with our Safe Settlement process.

SELLING A CAR

If you’re looking to sell your vehicle, just follow these simple steps:

1.

Submit your vehicle

Our application form only takes 2 minutes. All we need is a few details to get the wheels turning.

2.

Curation

We’ll review your submission, making sure it’s right for our audience and will come back to you within two working days to confirm details and agree a reserve price.

3.

Listing preparation

If the car is accepted and reserve agreed, we’ll prepare a detailed listing for you from information provided. As well as the inclusion of professional photography, Vehicle Inspection Report and PPSR Certificate.

4.

Final approval

You’ll approve the draft listing before it is pushed live. Please remember that any other listings you may have must be removed, as your listing must be exclusive to CTm during the listing period.

5.

Auction live

Once the auction is pushed live, bidders may be asking questions, which we will manage on your behalf. Should someone wish to see the vehicle, we will organise this with you.

6.

Auction ends

The auction will end once all bidders have placed their last exciting bid and the final seconds have run out. If it’s a no reserve auction or the final bid exceeds the reserve. We’ll manage the final transaction for you and the seller, with our Safe Settlement process.

7.

Buy now

If the auction is unsuccessful, you’ll be given the opportunity to accept the highest bid. If the highest bid is not accepted, the listing will be added to the Buy now section, at an agreed asking price.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

SELLERS

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO LIST MY CAR WITH CHROME TEMPLE Motors?

There is a flat seller's fee of $990 inc GST payable only if your sale is successful. This makes it a risk-free process, with all marketing benefits included: professional photography, Vehicles Inspection Report, PPSR Certificate, auto-journalist written listing, customer marketing strategy.

HOW DO I SUBMIT MY CAR AND WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS?

Submit your vehicle here, with our quick 2-minute form. After submission, our team will review and confirm if it’s a good fit for our community. This usually takes 2 business days. If approved, the CTm team will be in touch to obtain the information needed for your listing.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR MY LISTING TO GO LIVE?

There are a few things to arrange, such as the PPI report, PPSR history check, gathering all the information and images, then writing and compiling the listing. But we aim to have everything done from submission to scheduling within approximately 2 weeks.

HOW DO I GET PAID IF SOMEONE WINS MY LISTING?

We will manage the final transaction for the buyer and the seller, with our Safe Settlement process. This means we will hold and verify the funds for the buyer and release the funds once the vehicle has left the seller's possession.

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE WHICH CARS TO LIST?

The enthusiast vehicles approved for CTm are down to a range of factors. Including being a good fit for our community, overall condition, quality of information shared by the seller, agreeing to a reasonable reserve price, and the current mix of vehicles listed on the site.

CAN I SELL IF I'M NOT IN AUSTRALIA?

Absolutely. We’ll consider vehicles from anywhere in the world.

HOW LONG DO AUCTIONS LAST?

Auctions will last for 9 days, unless otherwise agreed.

HOW DO RESERVES WORK?

A reserve is the minimum price that bids must reach in order for a listing to sell. We only want committed sellers, and so we only accept listings where we can agree on a reasonable and realistic reserve. We also don’t like game playing, so reserve prices are never shown. All listings will have a reserve price, unless the title specifically reads no reserve.

CAN I INCLUDE A PRICE GUIDE FOR MY AUCTION LISTING?

Rather than include a price guide, we believe an honest and well detailed listing will ensure it reaches a fair market price. It’s up to the buyer to review the listing, do their due diligence and decide what it’s worth to them.

WHO WRITES THE LISTING?

Vehicle listings are written by our team of automotive journalists.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SHIPPING?

The buyer is responsible for the arrangement and payment of any shipping. We can assist with the storage, transport and maintenance of the vehicle. Get in touch for a quote.

AS A SELLER, CAN I CHANGE MY RESERVE?

You may lower your reserve at any time during the live auction.

CAN I BID ON MY OWN LISTING?

CTm is all about honest listings and fair market prices. Sellers cannot bid on their own listing or get others to bid for them. We monitor all our auction listings and users to protect against this happening.

HOW DO I CANCEL MY LIVE AUCTION LISTING?

All sellers must agree to the CTm terms of use and cannot cancel their auction once scheduled. Additionally all listings must be exclusive to CTm, with all other ads or listings taken down, while the CTm listing is scheduled or live.

WHAT PHOTOS DO I NEED OF MY CAR?

All listings include professionally shot images to give the best, most honest visual representation of the vehicle.

The buyer’s fee of 6% (inc GST) of the final successful hammer price (minimum of $1,000 inc GST, capped at a maximum of $10,000 inc GST) is automatically deducted from the buyer’s registered and verified credit or debit card. We will manage the final transaction for the buyer and the seller, with our Safe Settlement process. This means we will hold and verify the funds for the buyer and release the funds once the vehicle has left the seller's possession.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE RESERVE IS NOT MET?

If bidding does not meet or exceed the reserve price, the seller will be given the opportunity to accept the final highest bid. If the highest bid is not accepted, the listing will be added to the Buy now section, at an agreed asking price.

IS THERE A PRICE GUIDE FOR AUCTION LISTINGS?

We don’t believe in influencing the price, so no price guide will be added to the listing. It’s up to the buyer to review the listing, do their due diligence and decide what it’s worth to them.

Absolutely. As long as you have registered with a verified credit or debit card, you can bid from anywhere in the world. Just make sure you’ve checked associated shipping and import costs.

WHY DOES THE AUCTION END TIME CHANGE?

This is our Anti-sniping policy. We believe everyone should have fair and sufficient time to make their final highest bid. This is why, within the last ten minutes of the auction ending, every new bid will add two minutes to the clock. The auction will end once the clock reaches zero.

CAN I CANCEL A BID?

CTm is all about committed buyers and sellers, so it’s not possible to cancel a bid. Please make sure you complete all due diligence before placing a bid.

DO AUCTIONS HAVE A BUY NOW PRICE?

We don’t include buy now prices in auction listings, as we strongly believe all bidders should have the equal chance to make their final highest bid. If after the auction has ended, the reserve is not met, the seller will have the opportunity to accept or reject the final highest bid. If the highest bid is not accepted, the listing will be added to the Buy now section, at an agreed asking price.

CAN I GET IN CONTACT WITH THE SELLER?

Each auction listing is geared towards transparency for the CTm community, including a comment section. Making it easy for bidders to ask questions, sellers to provide answers and for everyone to see the conversations taking place. Potential bidders must complete their due diligence and have funds or finance in place before bidding. If you’d like to view the vehicle before bidding, get in touch and we’ll arrange it for you.

CAN I CONTACT A SELLER AFTER AN AUCTION HAS CLOSED?

Once an auction or buy now listing ends, we can only share the seller’s contact details with the buyer. If after the auction has ended, the reserve is not met, the seller will have the opportunity to accept or reject the final highest bid. If the highest bid is not accepted, the listing will be added to the Buy now section, at an agreed asking price.
